Public Relations Society of America

Philadelphia Chapter

About PRSA Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Chapter is the fifth largest chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). We provide opportunities for professional development, mentoring, networking and continuous learning in all strategic communication disciplines to 430 members across Greater Philadelphia.

PRSA Philadelphia supports PR and communications professionals in all stages of their career and offers a myriad of resources, including the region’s preeminent PR job bank, the exclusive opportunity to earn the APR professional accreditation, professional development and networking events, and volunteer opportunities. We also work closely with student chapters of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) in the region.

An update on our Pepperpot Awards

Do you remember the first Pepperpot Awards event that you attended and connected with the top local professionals being recognized for their best practices? Maybe you have not been lucky enough to attend the Pepperpots, and 2020 was going to be your year. Don’t let these times deter you from submitting or participating in this annual celebration.

It probably will come as no surprise that PRSA Philadelphia, like so many organizations, is shifting gears from planning for an in-person event to moving to virtual. While Dec.1 is more than 100 days away and seems so far away, the health and safety measures out of our control have meant taking necessary steps to have a safe but special celebration as we honor excellence in our community.

There is always a first in our history! We will make sure this is a suspenseful event where we can announce winners and recognize the hard work you have done in communications over the past year. And what a year it has been! The team behind the Pepperpot Awards will be working diligently and pivoting to hosting a virtual event.

We will have more information to come in the near future.

Your five takeaways –

  1. The Pepperpots Awards will be virtual – drinks to cheers and tasty hors d’oeuvre will be of your own choice. We will be back to our special menu in 2021 for in-person delight (but feel free to BYO champagne for our broadcast!).
  2. Your work matters – think back on your accomplishments from Aug. 1, 2019 – July 31, 2020. To submit for an award, please review the Call for Entries details here.
  3. Highlight an individual – PRSA Philadelphia wants to honor extraordinary individual achievements in areas from teaching/mentoring to service. Click here or more details.
  4. You can still sponsor the Pepperpots – The annual awards is a great time to  support this event and get your name in front of the best in the industry. Email pepperpots@philly.org to discuss sponsorship options for your organization.
  5. If you win, you will still receive the coveted pot or ladle!

The Pepperpot Awards have become a long-standing tradition for Philadelphia-area PR professionals to join in recognizing the top PR campaigns, tactics, and professionals. Don’t miss out just because we won’t be in the same room.

Dear Members,

Did you know that September is Ethics Month at PRSA? As communications professionals who are members of PRSA, we each agree to uphold and abide by the PRSA’s Code of Ethics, which stresses six core values: Advocacy, Honesty, Expertise, Independence, Loyalty, and Fairness.

On September 8, PRSA National hosted a webinar free for members. If you missed it, check it out on-demand beginning September 17. This is also a time for those with APR to receive CEUs during this webinar.

President’s Letter

Despite it being a truly unique year so far, we are looking forward to some exciting and informative programs this month, even though it is summer, it is helpful to keep learning! On Wednesday, July 15, Ken Jacobs will lead a lunchtime program, “Things to Start Doing NOW To More Effectively Lead Your Team.” Ken brings a wealth of knowledge and information on this topic, and you might even recognize his name from PRSA’s Strategies & Tactics publication! We will also be kicking off a series of helpful webinars this month and are proud to introduce the Philadelphia PRSA Job Search Webinar Series, the first of which will be led by Jennifer Lynn Robinson, Esq., CEO of Purposeful Networking covering, “Resilience Matters: Job Searching During a Crisis” on Tuesday, July 21.
